Mobile Computing Solutions

Mobile Computing

There are several companies that provide mobile computing solutions especially for commercial purposes. Mobile computing includes connecting several computing devices by means of wireless networking to make them accessible with each other. Hence, a person can be communicable with the office even though not physically present. This greatly improves communication and enables staff to take faster decisions, which translate into more business.

There are two main parts to company provided mobile computing equipment - the handheld equipment and the network connection. The handheld devices used in mobile computing solutions are basically laptop computers. These laptops are connected by means of a wireless network, usually wireless LAN. Cell phones can also be integrated into the network using wireless technologies such as GSM, CDMA, WLL, GPRS, EDGE, etc.

Mobile computing solutions can be provided for specific purposes. A good example is the mail tracking system provided to the US postal department. This system can pick up, sort and route mail and then notify airport malls for their reception. This tracker can also determine late postages and apply relevant penalties on the same. Today, there are custom designed mobile computing solutions for a wide array of commercial fields such as education, business, healthcare, pharmaceutical, supply chain management, etc.

Providing mobile computing solutions does not mean just providing the equipment and the connectivity. Most mobile computing solution providers also conduct seminars in which they train users how to handle the equipment. This is highly necessary as mobile computing is still a developing field. There are also consulting services and hotline numbers provided in case of emergencies and breakdowns. In short, mobile computing does not entail just equipment; it also extends to service and management.

The cost of a mobile computing solution system depends from company to company. Some solution providers may charge for the equipment as well as the server through which the devices would be connected. This would be a bulk quote. Some providers, however, charge a bit more for the equipment and do not charge for the servers. Usually these solution providers use their servers for a host of other customers. Equipment is charged on the basis of the number of users.

Save Your Mobile Phone

Mobile Computing

Act fast and save your mobile phone from ruin, if your phone gets soaked.

These days your phone is your life, well for teenagers anyway, they won't leave home without it.

Here is a little story. Once upon a time in far away place...oops, I started to drift off then. Right I had lost my phone and searched for it everywhere but could not find it. Just before I was about to report it as being lost or stolen, I emptied the washing machine only to find the phone soaked and still in my pocket. I had mixed emotions, great I found my phone and sadness because it was not working anymore.

I did not know what to do, should I phone a friend, with what, I wondered. I managed to speak to a friend and they told me something they had heard of, but had not tried themselves. I was desperate so I did what they had suggested and was very happy with the result. I got my phone back working in no time at all, it was not the same as it was but I could make and receive calls and get my saved numbers from my phone book.

If any of the following have happened to you then follow the instructions below and you too maybe as lucky as I was.

Mobile wet Mobile in water Mobile in sea water (salt water) Mobile in washing machine In almost any safe liquid

My recommendations are:-

1. If the phone is not off SWITCH IT OFF IMMEDIATELY.
2. Remove casing, remove battery and remove the chip (Sim card).
3. Wash it thoroughly with clean water to get rid of any impurities such as salt etc.
4. Place close to a heat source (see below) ideally for approximately 48 hours, try the phone earlier if you need to but the longer it is left the more successful it will be.

Note on heat source. Obvious but necessary, the heat source used must not be anything that will melt the phone. Do not place any heat source too close to the phone. What do you do if you do not have a heat source of some type. You must keep the phone dry and at room temperature or higher. A list of acceptable heat sources are below.

Airing cupboard Table lamp that gives off some heat 60-100watt bulb. (not energy saving) Radiator Blow heater Sun

Nokia N97 - The Mobile Computer

mobile computing

It was December 2, 09, Nokia is proud to present the new comer, Nokia N97. The second touch pad mobile from Nokia and a serious competitor for Google G1 and iPhone. Believe me, its not 'just another iPhone rival', but a serious contender. Nokia calls it, "The Mobile Computer". Let us take a look,

Noticeable Features

Slide-out QWERTY keyboard (3 rows)

Resolution 640*360pixels / 16:9 / 3.5"

Personalized widgets

5 MP Camera

Latest S60 OS

Supports Flash Video and Games

Unmatched 32GB built in memory (Expandable up to 48GB)

The touch screen key pad is sometimes a pain in the neck, and Nokia knows that. The N97 has a slide out 3 row QWERTY keyboard, in addition the touchpad. In terms of hardware, the Nokia n97 clearly outperforms iPhone and Google G1 as well. But we know that it's not the hardware feature which took iPhone to the pinnacle, it's the operating system and the cool interface. Well, n97 doesn't seem to have a week point either. Nokia n97 is capable of playing flash games and videos, which the iPhone lacks!

Customizable Widgets

Nokia n97 can be customized using widgets and is open for third party developers. The iPhone application store has already more than 10,000 widgets, and growing.

Now, Nokia don't want to be left behind and it'll catch up there soon.

So-Lo - 'Social Location'

Nokia introduces a new concept, So-Lo. With the ultimate evolution of social networks, Nokia n97 makes it easy to update with the social networks with the real time information. Not only that, n97 makes use of Nokia's updated mapping product and provides the exact point of your location, with the help of A-GPS sensors. Nokia claims this feature to be more versatile that Google Maps!

Nokia says this product will start shipping in the first half of 2009 and will be available for 36,000 INR at the minimum.
