These days your phone is your life, well for teenagers anyway, they won't leave home without it.

Here is a little story. Once upon a time in far away place...oops, I started to drift off then. Right I had lost my phone and searched for it everywhere but could not find it. Just before I was about to report it as being lost or stolen, I emptied the washing machine only to find the phone soaked and still in my pocket. I had mixed emotions, great I found my phone and sadness because it was not working anymore.

I did not know what to do, should I phone a friend, with what, I wondered. I managed to speak to a friend and they told me something they had heard of, but had not tried themselves. I was desperate so I did what they had suggested and was very happy with the result. I got my phone back working in no time at all, it was not the same as it was but I could make and receive calls and get my saved numbers from my phone book.

If any of the following have happened to you then follow the instructions below and you too maybe as lucky as I was.

My recommendations are:-

1. If the phone is not off SWITCH IT OFF IMMEDIATELY.
2. Remove casing, remove battery and remove the chip (Sim card).
3. Wash it thoroughly with clean water to get rid of any impurities such as salt etc.
4. Place close to a heat source (see below) ideally for approximately 48 hours, try the phone earlier if you need to but the longer it is left the more successful it will be.

Note on heat source. Obvious but necessary, the heat source used must not be anything that will melt the phone. Do not place any heat source too close to the phone. What do you do if you do not have a heat source of some type. You must keep the phone dry and at room temperature or higher. A list of acceptable heat sources are below.

The touch screen key pad is sometimes a pain in the neck, and Nokia knows that. The N97 has a slide out 3 row QWERTY keyboard, in addition the touchpad. But we know that it's not the hardware feature which took iPhone to the pinnacle, it's the operating system and the cool interface. Well, n97 doesn't seem to have a week point either. Using mobile computers when in transit implies mobile computing. This is effectuated by using wireless technologies such as LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, GPRS, etc.

LAN refers to Local Area Networking. This is not a very mobile technology, as it restricts the area of its reach. LAN refers to the connectivity of two or more fixed or mobile computing devices within a particular area. This connection can be done physically by cables (in which case it would not be an example of mobile computing) or other connections such as infrared rays and wireless connections. LAN enables computers within its reach to share and compute data. It is primarily an intranet network.

Cell phones are currently the most commonly used mobile computing devices on the planet. They use wireless technologies such as GSM, CDMA, WLL, GPRS, EDGE, 3G etc. for their connectivity. Currently, GPRS or General Packet Radio Service is considered a fast-growing technology. GPRS networks coupled with EDGE or Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution provide fast Internet connection on cell phones. They can provide data transfer speeds of about 384 kbps, which are much higher than GSM and CDMA technologies.

Besides these popular services, there are also some lesser-known networks that have been introduced lately. One such network, the Metricom, was available in 12 cities and 15 airports. However, it is no longer available due to the company's financial constraints. ArrayComm and SWIFTComm are relatively new networks that promise speeds of up to 1 Mbps to the mobile computer user.
